We offer routine bookable face to face as well phone advice appointments.  Please book a face-to-face appointment if a physical examination is required.

We know that there will be increased waiting times and there will still be a need for triage and emergency appointments. We have set up a phone triage service to deal with genuine emergencies that need to be dealt with on the day. When "on the day" capacity triage slots are full and depending on the nature of the problem, the duty  doctor will assess and may ask the receptionist to advise the patient to call back the following day.

Mondays and Tuesdays are our busiest days and we would encourage patients with non-urgent medical problems to phone later in the week.

House calls should be requested for genuinely housebound patients and before 11am.  We can see four patients in the time it takes to do one house call.

We kindly request that after long bank holiday weekends that you refrain from phoning about routine medical issues or non-clinical issues so that emergencies can get through on the phones.

Please continue to use the chemist for minor ailments, the optician for eye problems and the dentist for dental problems.  (See sign post to other services link for information on more services available out with the GP surgeries), Minor Injuries Unit at QMH for possible fractures and cuts, or A&E for more serious injuries.  Please contact 111 to be directed appropriately to either A&E or Minor Injuries.

Home Visits

Please call the surgery before 11:00.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Our Practice policy is to deal with urgent medical problems on the same day and to offer you advice or an appointment if there is a clinical need.

Triage

Patients, who feel that they have a medical problem which needs to be dealt with on the day can telephone the surgery.  The receptionist will add your details to the appropriate clinicians list for a call back. Please be available for the call back. To allow clinicians to deal with genuine emergencies on the day, please note that when all the "on the day" capacity triage slots are full and depending on the nature of the problem, the duty doctor will assess and may ask the receptionist to advise the patient to call back the next day.

We will not accept requests for triage appointments before 8.30 am

Virtual Group Consultations (VGC) are an opportunity for patients with similar health conditions to connect online at the same time, allowing them to receive advice about how to manage their condition from our specialised Clinicians and their fellow patients.  This provides an opportunity to spend more time with an appropriate Clinician (GP/Practice Nurse/other healthcare professional).  Patients can highlight what matters to them about their condition and receive the relevant support to overcome any challenges from their condition.  VGCs offer an opportunity to receive a high standard of personalised care and last approximately 90 minutes.

Patients will be sent an invitation letter with instructions on how to join the virtual group consultation appointment.

GP TRAINING - HELPING TRAIN THE GPs OF THE FUTURE 

IMG is a GP Training Practice attached to the NHS Education for Scotland Speciality GP Training Programme.  We are keen to support the training of new GP's and also to develop the skills of our existing GP's and other staff.  As part of this, clinicians working in their practice might make recordings of their consultation skills as well as their ability to talk to patients.

The recording will only be used for teaching and training purposes, usually within the practice building between trainer and trainee, although sometimes teaching sessions may be held outside the practice in a group setting where the recording maybe viewed by other trainers and trainees.

Your consent will always be requested by the receptionist at the time of booking your appointment and before your consultation is recorded.  You will need to sign that consent form again afterwards to say that you are still happy.  You can also withdraw your consent at any time following this, either verbally or in writing.  The recording will focus on the communication between the doctor & patient and will not record examinations where your body clothing needs to be removed.

If you would rather that your consultation is not recorded, please tell the receptionist.  This is entirely your choice and will not affect your health care in any way.

Interpretation Service

The Practice has access to the services of interpreters of various languages as well as British Sign Language interpreters. Ask at reception or contact 01592 729130 for more details.

Help with Transport to Attend Appointments

If you have difficulty using public transport to attend for your appointment, the RVS can arrange transport to your appointment. (A mileage charge is payable for this transport). Phone 01592 269654 to book transport.

Medical Students

The Practice is involved in teaching undergraduate medical students. Patients will be informed when a student is going to be present at consultations.

If you prefer not to have a student present at your consultation please let reception know. Declining to see a medical student will not affect any aspect of your care as a patient.
