Know Your Risk: Type 2 Diabetes
Type 2 diabetes is a serious condition, but the good news is that up to 50% of cases can be prevented or delayed with the right lifestyle changes.
The first step is understanding your personal risk. We are encouraging all our eligible patients to take a few minutes to complete the Diabetes UK “Know Your Risk” assessment.
Why check your risk?
Many people have type 2 diabetes for years without realizing it because symptoms can be subtle or non-existent in the early stages. By checking your risk score now, you can:
- Catch it early: Early diagnosis can reduce the risk of complications.
- Take control: If you are at “increased” or “moderate” risk, simple changes to your diet and activity levels can often reverse that risk.
- Get support: We can offer specific medical advice and monitoring if your score indicates you need it.
Step 1: Calculate your score
We recommend using the official Diabetes UK online tool. It is free, confidential, and takes less than 3 minutes.
You will need:
- Your height and weight
- Your waste measurements

Step 2: Send us your result
This is the most important part. Once you have completed the questionnaire, you will be given a numbered risk score which will show as Low, Increased, Moderate, or High).
Please let us know your result number so we can update your medical record. If your score is Moderate or High, we may need to check you have had the right blood test and will only be in touch if you require this.
